“Biden Blasts Off to Israel – Wednesday Trip Announced!
President Joe Biden is scheduled to travel to Israel on Wednesday, a historic move which will be the first time that an American President has visited the Middle East in two years since the Trump administration took office. The visit, to be held in the country israel on May 19th, is seen as part of the Biden administration’s policy to restart Middle East peace negotiations and rebuild the relationship between the United States and Israel that had deteriorated under Trump. During the visit, Biden is expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has boasted friendly relations with Trump and played a central role in the former president’s 2016 election victory. Biden would also be scheduled to meet with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and, as well as Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. The Israeli visit will represent a departure from a recent tradition of US presidents not visiting Israel during their first year in office. In the past, US leaders typically avoided the country until their relationships with Middle East leaders were established and their overall regional policies understood and accepted. Biden’s visit to Israel is also a big event as it marks the first direct flight from the US to Israel after years of diplomatic tensions between the two countries. This visit is also important as it comes at a time when tensions between Israel and Palestine are high. Following the Trump Administration’s so-called “peace plan” known as the “Deal of the Century”, which Palestinians reject, Washington is attempting to restart negotiations and find a way both sides can agree upon. This historic visit by Biden aims to help repair and strengthen the long standing relationship between the United States and Israel, as well as draw attention to the Middle East peace process in the hopes of progress in the future.
