Amazon Employees: Return to Office or Risk Losing Promotions
As the world continues to battle against COVID-19, companies have devised multiple ways to ensure the safety of their employees. One such example is Amazon, one of the most successful e-commerce businesses in the world. According to a report from Godzillanewz, Amazon has warned their employees that if they do not comply with the regulations put in place for a safe return to office, they may not be eligible to get promoted. The e-commerce giant has implemented multiple safety regulations to ensure the safety of both their employees and customers. This includes regular health checks, temperature checks, contact tracing, mandatory masks and social distancing, amongst others. These regulations are in place to maintain the integrity of the workplace and to prevent the spread of the virus further. In a similar move, Amazon has also made it clear that it may limit promotion opportunities for its employees who cannot or choose not to comply with these new regulations. According to reports, this policy will extend to employees who do not return to work physically. The company is expecting a large amount of its employees to return to the office as the rules continue to ease. However, for those who are unable or choose not to do so, the implication is that they may not be considered for promotions. Amazon has also rolled out other COVID-19 workforce-related policies such as allowing employees to work from home when needed. However, the implication here is that Amazon is expecting their employees to return to the office and adhere to its safety regulations. The decision by Amazon may not be the most popular amongst their employees, however it does reflect the company’s commitment to protecting the safety and well-being of its workers. In addition, it will provide clarity as to what is expected of the company’s employees. Ultimately, as the world continues to grapple with this pandemic, it is essential for companies like Amazon to have strict workplace safety regulations in place in order to protect those who may be vulnerable to infection. Providing incentive for compliance could be a step in the right direction.
