“Super PAC CEO’s Resignation Sparks Political Firestorm
The CEO of Pro Desantis Super PAC, a major political action committee with close ties to Florida Republican Representative Ron Desantis, has resigned amid rising tensions over the 2020 Presidential election. Jack Spencer, who had been in the position since the PAC’s inception in 2016, released a statement explaining that “the magnitude of the political discourse in our country” had reached a point that could no longer be sustained in his role. Spencer added that he had “a deep respect for the office of the President” and wished everyone involved the best. Spencer’s resignation comes as Pro Desantis Super PAC is actively fundraising and organizing events to support candidates that share their belief in conservative values. The group has also been vocal in denouncing recent voter fraud allegations, calling them “dangerously reckless” in a press release dated July 9th. The organization’s leadership transition to Kim Hyman, the executive chairwoman of the PAC, was announced shortly after Spencer’s departure. She has been a major influence in the group since its establishment and has worked closely with Rep. Desantis, who sits on the PAC’s Board of Directors. The move marks an interesting transition of power for Pro Desantis Super PAC, which could be seen as a sign of growing unrest within the political action committee. Hyman is expected to take a more vocal and aggressive approach to fundraising and electioneering, channeling those efforts into Red states and engaging heavily in Congressional races. Overall, the shakeup of leadership within Pro Desantis Super PAC is a sign of the turbulent political landscape in post-election 2020. It will be interesting to see how the new direction of the PAC impacts the outcomes of future elections, both in Florida and beyond.
