U.S. President Donald Trump’s lawyers have identified what they call “Patient Zero” for election denials and Russian interference.
During a rare Sunday evening press conference, three leading members of Trump’s legal team, Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis and Lin Wood, outlined their latest findings regarding the 2020 election.
“We have identified the source of the election denials and Russian interference,” Giuliani said, referring to an unnamed individual whose name he did not disclose. “We call him Patient Zero because he was the first to spread disinformation about the election, and he is also responsible for the campaign of denials that has taken place in the weeks since.”
Giuliani and Ellis said that their Patient Zero was responsible for spreading many of the false narratives that have been circulating about the election – including false claims about fraud, voting machine errors, and dead people voting.
Wood said that Patient Zero operated mostly behind the scenes, but that they had evidence that he was actively involved in spreading the disinformation, and may have even received support from Russia.
The lawyers declined to speculate on who Patient Zero might be, but they said that they had assembled “a mountain” of evidence linking him to the election denials and Russian interference.
Trump has denounced the election results in numerous tweets and public statements, claiming that he won the election “by a landslide” and that there was widespread fraud. However, no evidence of fraud or illegal activity has been found by any of the fifty states that held the election.
The lawyers said that they would continue to pursue their case as they believe Patient Zero was instrumental in undermining public confidence in the election. They have vowed to take their findings to the Supreme Court if necessary.
No matter the outcome, it is clear that Trump’s legal team will not rest until they identify and expose the person or people behind the president’s election denials and the alleged Russian interference.
