“Tesla Takes Safety Seriously: 120,000 cars recalled due to potential door failure in a crash
Tesla Inc, the world’s most valued car maker, has recently issued a recall of 120000 vehicles due to potentially faulty doors that could open in a crash. The recall affects vehicles from various years of the Tesla Model S produced between May 1, 2012 and April 1, 2016. The faulty doors could cause them to open in the event of a crash, potentially injuring the occupants. The company announced the recall on Tuesday night, noting they had first become aware of the issue in March. After performing an internal investigation, the company determined that the problem was the result of “faulty cables in the left and, in some cases, the right front door of certain vehicles.” Tesla stated that the cables may have been improperly attached or improperly routed during the manufacturing process, which could cause them to break in a crash resulting in the door opening. Tesla claimed to have already addressed the issue in their production process and has implemented additional recall-related remedies, but that the issue may still arise in some vehicles already on the road. Tesla said that the recall covers an estimated 120000 vehicles and that the company would be contacting owners of affected vehicles by mail. Those owners can then schedule a service appointment to have the doors inspected and any repairs made. Tesla also noted that the recall did not affect the Model X and no other make or model. The company reassured that customers should still feel safe in their vehicles, but that out of an abundance of caution they are issuing the recall. This is not the first recall for Tesla; in October of 2020, the company also recalled 150000 vehicles over a possible fire risk. Though this incident serves as a reminder of the reliability of Tesla’s vehicles, safety must always come first. If you have a Tesla Model S from the years 2012 to 2016, please check to see if it is one of the vehicles affected by this recall and take the necessary steps to have it inspected and repaired.
