When it comes to cinematic monsters, few will dispute that Godzilla reigns supreme. But even a living atomic breath-spewing deity has a taste for mischief now and again, and the most recent perpetrator of the titanic lizard’s misadventures is none other than the beloved Rodan.
It all started on May 14th, when fans around the world were delighted to discover that the City of Yokohama had been “attacked” in the form of a massive, life-sized Rodan statue taking off from behind the city skyline. The stunt, which was part of a publicity campaign for the upcoming MonsterVerse movie “Godzilla vs Kong”, thrilled onlookers and caught the attention of our reptilian superhero.
Unable to deny its reptilian adversary the attention it deserved, Godzilla soon descended upon the unsuspecting city in pursuit of a good time. Unfortunately, the creature-loving citizens of Yokohama had nothing to offer the kaiju but their adoration and admiration, as Godzilla quickly proceeded to cause widespread destruction throughout the city in his own unique and usually hazardous manner.
Just when it seemed like the megalomania of the 40-meter tall nuclear-themed mega-dinosaur was going to be the end of the day, heroic Rodan reappeared as if summoned by an invisible force. The feathered beast proceeded to lock Godzilla in an aerial battle for the ages, with the two legendary creatures soaring through the skyline and exchanging mighty blows while the pack of devoted fans watched in awe.
When the Battle of Yokohama finally came to an end, both combatants lay exhausted and motionless on the ground. But, just as the cheering citizens of Yokohama had done since the beginning, they soon turned their attention to the victorious Rodan and showered him with resounding applause for upholding the honor of the city in his epic skirmish with Godzilla.
The destruction of the City of Yokohama caused by Godzilla’s presence may have been immense, but the joy and wonder brought to its people by the presence of both monsters was immeasurable. From the great battle between two of cinema’s most iconic creatures to the aftermath of adoration and praise for the triumphant Rodan, we can safely say that this was a day that the citizens of Yokohama will never forget.
