Boeing recently issued an urgent advisory to its airline customers urging them to inspect their 737 Max planes for possibly loose bolts. The company discovered the potential issue during routine maintenance carried out on a finished airplane while it was in static storage. Upon inspection, a small number of bolts were found to be not properly secured. The bolts in question are located in the wing to body fairing, which are points where wing sections attach to the plane’s fuselage. They provide structural stability and help control airflow around the wings. If these bolts become loose, it could potentially cause airframe drag and reduce aircraft performance and fuel efficiency. Boeing has stated that it “is committed to safety and quality” and as such, has advised its airline customers to immediately inspect their 737 Max planes for any loose bolts, and to contact Boeing for advice on how to fix any issues. The potential problem has not caused any reported incidents so far, but Boeing clearly wants to be proactive and ensure the highest possible levels of safety for its passengers and crew. As an extremely large and influential company in the aviation industry, even the slightest potential for danger will be taken seriously by the American aviation giant given its track record for quality and safety. The advisory affects all 737 Max planes delivered to customers so far, so Boeing airlines should be sure to inspect their planes as soon as possible to avoid any potential issues. If any are found to be loose, airlines have been advised to contact Boeing to find out what action is required to remediate the situation. This latest advisory shows that Boeing takes safety and quality championing very seriously, and that it is always looking to move quickly in order to make sure its passengers and crew are safe.
