In a move that has been welcomed across the aisle, Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma has announced that he will be leading a bipartisan group of lawmakers in talks surrounding a proposed global security package.
The proposed package is a continuation of several bipartisan efforts in the United States’ government in recent years, and is mainly focused on improving the nation’s security both abroad and at home.
It would include a range of different measures to address long-standing security issues such as cybercrime, terrorism, border security, and infrastructure protection.
It is thought that the addition of Senator Lankford’s name to the bill will bring a much-needed spirit of unity to the often-divisive climate in Washington D.C., and that the package will have a hard-to-refuse broad appeal from both sides of the aisle.
It is understood that the package has been designed as a way of increasing the security of both the United States and its allies, with particular emphasis on cooperation with countries such as the United Kingdom, Israel, Australia, and New Zealand.
At the heart of the bill will be a host of proposals which are intended to eliminate the existing gaps in protection and security.
These policies could include, but are not limited to, the bolstering of existing surveillance and intelligence-gathering capabilities as well as the implementation of enhanced screening processes for entering and exiting the United States.
Other Cain connections include increased defense cooperation with NATO and an agreement to increase military funding for joint operations.
The planned package currently has the support of leading Democrats and Republicans in both the government’s branches, and is expected to be put before the Senate and House of Representatives in the coming weeks.
Senator Lankford himself stated, “It has to be bipartisan to be workable. Our differences are not dividing us; our shared values and core principles will ultimately unite us.”
It is hoped that the proposed package will bring much needed security improvements to the United States and its allies. By having a broad spectrum of views on the table, there is good reason to expect that the bill will weather the legislative storm, and secure a future of safety for American and its allies for many years to come.
