“Police Called After Intense Dispute Between Congresswoman Boebert and Ex-Husband
On Saturday night, things got out of hand when former El Paso Rep. Beto O’Rourke’s ex-husband, Steve Boebert, called the police after a heated argument between himself and Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas). The incident began when Boebert sent an email to O’Rourke’s office requesting a meeting. According to eye witnesses, Escobar responded with strong words, trying to “dogpile” and “belittle” Boebert, causing a verbal altercation. Despite Boebert claiming that the incident was simply between himself and Escobar, it was reported that O’Rourke was also present and trying to defuse tensions between the two. Nevertheless, Boebert walked out of the office and contacted the police with the intent that he wanted Escobar removed. However, no one was arrested as the police determined that no criminal activity had taken place. The incident raises questions as to whether revised procedures need to be implemented with constituents and public officials in order to ensure that situations like this do not occur in the future. Furthermore, with the growth in political and ideological divides, it is becoming increasingly important that representatives and their staff are prepared to handle such disputes without involving law enforcement. The incident between Boebert and Escobar reflects the increasing tension between members of the public and public officials. While the situation was resolved without any serious harm done, it is essential that proper procedures and security measures are established in order to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
